Jesús Gardea (born July 2, 1939 in Delicias, Chihuahua - died March 12, 2000 in Mexico City) was a Mexican writer best known for his short-fiction set against the plains and towns of northern Mexico. Trained as a dentist, Gardea worked in that profession for many years before publishing his first book after the age of forty.
His prose is marked by sparse, measured language and a persistent concern with marginal places, quiet characters and deep horizons. Gardea has come to be regarded as one of the most important voices in late 20th-century Mexican literature.
